Breathalyzer Time Chart: How Long until I am Sober?

breathalyzer-time-chart

Should you trust any random blood-alcohol chart or breathalyzer time chart? It would be best if you keep in mind that the safest and quickest way to know your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level is by conducting an alcohol breath test using a breathalyzer. BACtrack personal breathalyzers can provide you with highly accurate results. These devices also have FDA approval for a breath testing device. BACtrack breathalyzers use fuel cell technology. If you value your safety when consuming alcohol, BACtrack personal breathalyzers are worthy investments. BACtrack breathalyzers offer compact, handheld units on par with law enforcement devices that can give accurate BAC measurements. The BACtrack S80 is our most flexible personal or workplace breathalyzer. Additionally, you can conduct plenty of tests before ever needing to recalibrate.

What can affect a person’s BAC:

  • The person’s age
  • The person’s weight
  • If the person is consuming alcohol on an empty stomach
  • Medications may affect BAC readings
  • If the person has liver disease

You must know the alcohol level in your drink because that will determine how long it takes to metabolize. Knowing this makes the breathalyzer time chart easier to read.

Breathalyzer Time Chart: Processing Alcohol

You cannot precisely determine what your BAC is without using a breathalyzer. However, there is a breathalyzer time chart available that you can look at for estimates. To estimate when your BAC will reach zero involves knowing the right burn-off rate. For example, if you have a BAC level of 0.16% (above the legal limit of 0.05%). The body generally metabolizes alcohol at 0.016% per hour. This rate means it will take 10 hours for an individual with a BAC level of 0.16% to reach a 0.00% BAC. For example, a person who has a BAC of 0.16% at one in the morning would have their BAC return to zero at 11 am.

BAC levels and the effects of alcohol

A breathalyzer time chart does not always help, but it is an excellent way to estimate your BAC. Alcohol consumption correlates with BAC levels. The higher your BAC level, the more intoxicated and impaired you will likely feel. It is best to always check your BAC with devices like the BACtrack personal breathalyzer.

  • BAC – 0.10 BAC – A person will feel mild intoxication, problems with coordination and trouble keeping focused
  • 10 BAC – 0.20 BAC – A person will have impaired judgment, trouble with speech and walking
  • 20 BAC – 0.30 BAC – No coordination, confused and nauseous
  • 30 BAC and above – Loss of consciousness
