1. Pre-Testing Hydration Requirements
Donors must maintain normal hydration but restrict water intake to a maximum of 500 mL in the hour before testing to prevent a diluted sample.
-
2. Collect the Sample
Have the donor provide a urine sample directly into the collection cup. Ensure the urine level is above the minimum volume line (typically around 30 mL) to guarantee there is a sufficient amount of specimen for both the initial testing and any potential laboratory confirmation if required.
-
3. Verify Sample Temperature
Immediately check the built-in temperature strip on the cup. To verify the sample has not been substituted or tampered with, the green indicator should show a temperature between 32°C and 38°C within 4 minutes of collection.
-
4. Lid Security and Initial Sealing
Place the cup on a flat surface and press down on the pull tab until it clicks to seal it securely.
-
5. Activate the Testing Mechanism
Place the cup on a flat, level surface. Locate the split key in the lid and push it firmly into the designated lower side socket. This action activates the test by releasing the sample into the internal testing chamber.
-
6. Set the Timer
Immediately start a timer for 5 minutes once the mechanism is activated. Allow the cup to sit undisturbed on the flat surface while the results develop.
-
7. Observe the Strict Reading Window
Read the results precisely between 3 and 5 minutes after activation. Do not read the results before 3 minutes have passed, and do not interpret them after 10 minutes, as late chemical reactions can cause highly inaccurate readings.
-
8. Interpreting a Negative Result
Observe the drug panel strip. A Negative result is indicated when two colored lines appear: one in the Control region (C) and one in the Test region (T).
-
9. Interpreting Preliminary Positive Results
A Presumptive Positive result is indicated when only one colored line appears, and it is located strictly in the Control region (C). No line of any kind appears in the Test region (T).
-
10. Interpreting and Handling an Invalid Result
If no line appears in the Control region (C), the test is invalid, regardless of whether a line shows up in the Test region (T) or not. If this occurs, the test is void, and you must discard the device and repeat the entire procedure using a new test.

Bulk purchasing drug and alcohol testing devices can provide significant cost savings and improve workplace testing efficiency. Businesses conducting regular employee screening often purchase larger quantities to maintain compliance programs and reduce per-test costs. Bulk ordering also ensures consistent stock availability and minimises downtime when testing is required. Breathalysers Australia offers bulk purchasing discounts, which are displayed near the top of each of our drug testing product pages.
Saliva and urine drug tests are both commonly used for workplace drug screening. However, they detect drug use differently. Saliva testing identifies recent drug use and is more effective for determining impairment at the time of testing, making it ideal for workplace and roadside applications. Urine testing detects drug metabolites over a longer period, making it more suitable for identifying historical or dependent drug use in the workplace. Saliva testing is less invasive, easier to supervise, and provides faster onsite results, while urine testing generally has a longer detection window.

Any organisation that aims to achieve optimal performance from its employees and manage the risks linked to drug and alcohol use must establish clear policies. This is especially crucial in industries where safety is a priority. Employers are obligated to create a safe working environment and may introduce policies to uphold this duty. A well-defined policy aids in maintaining consistency throughout the organisation and mitigates potential legal ramifications.
