The precision of a breathalyser depends on the quality of its internal sensor and its overall design. The fuel-cell sensor units provided by Breathalysers Australia are exceptionally accurate, able to measure to three decimal places. It is essential to use breathalysers correctly and to recalibrate them according to the specific servicing requirements of each model.

Prior to taking the test, it is essential to wait 15–20 minutes after your last intake of alcohol, food, or other liquids before utilizing your breathalyser.
For devices intended for personal use, please allow a 3-minute interval between successive tests to enable the sensor to clear.
Refrain from using hand sanitiser or any alcohol-based cleaning products in the vicinity of the testing area. Conducting testing outdoors can help eliminate the potential for ambient readings.
Ensure that the mouthpiece is securely attached, take a deep breath, and most importantly, blow steadily until you hear a click. Neglecting to blow consistently will lead to an error, as the device will not have received a complete sample.

Fuel-cell models usually provide over 6 years of service when kept within calibration and when care instructions are followed. The technology will eventually become outdated, indicating that a new device may need to be purchased.
